Job Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward-thinking and highly motivated Antimicrobial Specialist Pharmacist to join our friendly and progressive Pharmacy team at Frimley Park Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist with a passion for antimicrobial stewardship, education, and optimisation of patient care. In this specialist role, you will combine your clinical expertise with a strong desire to improve antibiotic use across the organisation. You will contribute to safe, effective and timely patient care by providing expert antimicrobial advice and support to medical, nursing and pharmacy colleagues, as well as directly to patients. While you will have an allocated ward for regular clinical cover, your primary focus will be delivering high-quality antimicrobial stewardship across the hospital. You will play a key role in audit, surveillance and the effective use of digital tools to monitor antibiotic prescribing trends and support quality improvement. As an excellent communicator and team player, you will enjoy educating colleagues, influencing best practice, and driving positive change in antimicrobial use. This is a full-time post based primarily at Frimley Park Hospital. Core departmental hours are 09:00 – 17:15, Monday to Friday, with participation in evening and weekend rotas as required. Main duties of the job To assist in further development and implementation of an antimicrobial stewardship program (alongside senior colleagues) across Frimley Health, enabling the Trust to monitor and modify antimicrobial prescribing and use best practices to facilitate a culture of safe and prudent prescribing. To continue the development, delivery, and update of integrated antimicrobial guidelines and policies across Frimley Health To work closely with the microbiology/ID consultants and antimicrobial pharmacists to develop and improve on existing audit tools to monitor antimicrobial prescribing across Frimley Health and to help exploit the capacity within EPIC to help deliver this To work closely with colleagues to develop training on antimicrobial stewardship prescribing and help deliver this across the Trust. To act as a role model for antimicrobial stewardship and clinical pharmacy practice in order to promote a consistently high standard of antimicrobial stewardship and pharmacy clinical services in line with the Pharmacy and Trust objectives. To act as a reserve resource to the senior antimicrobial pharmacists from both hospitals when that need might arise. To help improve on established audit and QI tools to monitor antimicrobial stewardship across Frimley Health NHSFT and benchmark against other organisations. To help ensure that antimicrobial prescribing is within formulary and Trust specifications and to help optimise cost effectiveness. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Pharmacy degree (Masters level 4 years) Registered with GPhC Postgraduate clinical diploma or appropriate equivalent Independent Prescriber (or intention to become one) Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Desirable criteria MSc or higher degree Formal management qualification RPS membership Experience Essential criteria Significant post-qualification experience working as a pharmacist in a clinical environment Desirable criteria Regular experience of providing antimicrobial clinical pharmacy support Teaching/tutoring experience Skills & Knowledge Essential criteria Excellent written and verbal communication Excellent IT Skills Good interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills Applied clinical knowledge Desirable criteria Evidence of interest in research Prior experience with EPR systems and in particular optimising them for AMS uses Evidence of published work in peer reviewed journals.
