Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join the Nuclear Medicine Department at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The post is shared between the Nuclear Medicine Imaging team (4 days per week) and the Medical Physics team (1 day per week), providing experience across both clinical and technical aspects of Nuclear Medicine practice. The department is accredited by UKAS/MPACE and participates in clinical research trials.
Main duties of the job
* Provide practical support to the Nuclear Medicine Imaging department with close links to the Nuclear Medicine Physics team to deliver diagnostic scans and tests efficiently and safely.
* Act as a clinical technologist within the Nuclear Medicine Imaging team; perform a broad range of patient investigations (imaging and non-imaging) using gamma cameras and counting equipment; image patients and process/analyse data.
* Carry out quality control tests on imaging equipment including SPECT/CT; assist in service development to meet scientific and clinical demand.
* Work with physicists, clinicians, and other Trust staff in a multidisciplinary Nuclear Medicine team; ensure radiation safety and regulatory compliance.
* Follow departmental SOPs for clinical and research scans; assist in preparing, administering radiopharmaceuticals using ANTT; support accurate clinical reporting and timely delivery of results.
* Maintain compliance with radiation protection legislation (IR(ME)R 2017, IRR 2017) and promote a strong safety culture; handle, measure, and dispose of radioactive waste per guidelines.
* Engage in audit, service improvement, and continuing professional development; contribute to weekend or extended-day cover when required.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and visitors; escalate radiation safety, patient care, or equipment issues to senior staff or the Medical Physics team as appropriate.
Person Specification
Essential
* Qualifications: Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree or equivalent in Physics, Nuclear Medicine, or related subject
* Knowledge: Ability to work in a team environment
Desirable
* Knowledge of basic principles underpinning nuclear medicine; hospital environment experience; completed PTP training scheme
* Knowledge of procedures in Nuclear Medicine, clinical implications for diagnosis and therapy
* Understanding of radioactive materials risks, relevant legislation (IRR, IR(ME)R, EPR, CDG), and research techniques
