Job Description

Location: Queen Alexandra Hospital, Southwick Hill Road, Cosham, Portsmouth, PO6 3LY
Salary: NHS Band 6 - £39,959- £48,117
Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full time (flexible working options may be considered)

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate Band 6 Radiographer Mammographer to join our Breast Imaging team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

You will play a key role in delivering a high-quality breast imaging service across both static and mobile screening units, supporting early diagnosis and improving outcomes for patients. This role offers excellent opportunities to further develop your clinical expertise, contribute to service improvement, and support education within the department.


Main Duties of the Job

* Perform high-quality mammography within the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) and symptomatic
* Work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide safe, effective, patient-centred care
* Produce consistently high-quality images while minimising repeat exposures
* Participate in quality assurance programmes, audit, and service development
* Support the supervision and training of students, trainees, and assistant practitioners
* Contribute to research, audit, and data collection activities within the department
* Work flexibly across hospital and mobile units to meet service

Our Breast Imaging Department provides a supportive and innovative environment where staff are encouraged to grow and develop. You will also have access to our Passport to Manage Programme, supporting leadership and career development


The successful applicant will:

* Deliver safe, effective, and high-quality mammography services in line with NHSBSP guidance and Trust policies
* Act as an independent radiographic practitioner within professional, ethical, and legal frameworks
* Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and compassion at all times
* Ensure compliance with radiation protection regulations (IR(ME)R)
* Use clinical systems including PACS and NBSS
* Participate in audit, quality management systems, and research activities
* Maintain and develop professional competence through CPD and training
* Degree or Diploma in Radiography (diagnostic or therapeutic)
* Hold a current HCPC registration for radiographer
* Post graduate award in Mammographer


Experience

* Evidence or plans for CPD
* Extended clinical role or management training


Skills and Knowledge

* High levels of concentration required
* Demonstrate co-ordination and sensory skills required for precise positioning of patients with narrow margin for error
* Speed and accuracy
* Understanding of current Ionising Radiation Regulations (2017) and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations (2017)
* Demonstrate specialized keyboard skills required for image manipulation
* Professional Appearance

* Able to use initiative
* Flexible, punctual and reliable
* Able to handle stressful situations
* Confident manner
* Cheerful disposition
* Ability to stand for long periods of time and have the ability to bend
