We are seeking an exceptional Technical Manager to provide strategic leadership of technical services within our School of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
Responsibilities
As part of the School’s leadership team, you will shape technical strategy, lead capability development, and ensure infrastructure supports growth.
* Set and deliver technical strategy aligned with School and University priorities.
* Build and lead a high-performing, agile technical workforce.
* Oversee complex laboratory and specialist environments, ensuring they remain fit for future demand.
* Act as a trusted advisor to academics and leadership on infrastructure, investment, and capability.
* Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency across technical services.
* Ensure rigorous health, safety, and compliance frameworks in a complex environment.
Qualifications
We are looking for a credible and forward‑looking leader with the ability to operate confidently at senior level.
* A strong track record in leading technical, scientific, or laboratory‑based services.
* Experience of managing complex operations, resources, and multi‑disciplinary teams.
* The ability to influence, challenge and partner with senior academic stakeholders.
* Commercial awareness, including exposure to capital investment, procurement, or research environments.
* A clear commitment to developing people, capability and culture.
