Overview
Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) network role across UHCW, South Warwickshire & Nuneaton Hospitals. Join our POCT service supporting rapid diagnostics and patient-focused care.
Responsibilities
* Run the day‑to‑day POCT department and deputise for the POCT Manager.
* Supervise POCT staff to meet objectives and work effectively.
* Maintain and validate a wide range of POCT devices (blood gas analysers, glucose/ketone meters, urinalysis readers, INR, CRP, HbA1c, TEG, COVID/Flu testing).
* Undertake regular audits on POCT device use, ensuring correct patient identifiers and barcodes.
* Train clinical and non‑clinical staff in safe and effective POCT equipment use.
* Ensure compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards and support the department’s accreditation journey.
* Manage quality systems and user databases, supporting breath test clinics.
* Communicate complex technical information to staff, suppliers and stakeholders.
* Participate in departmental teaching programmes and service development projects.
Qualifications
* HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist with a completed Specialist Portfolio.
* Experience in NHS laboratory settings.
* Good understanding of POCT across all aspects and familiarity with a range of instruments.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Ability to work independently across multiple sites and clinical areas.
* Flexibility to adapt quickly and efficiently to changes in working practice.
* Commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
* Strong interpersonal skills to liaise face‑to‑face with other departments and hospitals.
* Immunisation and vaccination report from current UK occupational health provider or UK GP required.
