Why this role matters
This role is central to helping Exeter City Council meet its legal duties and build a culture where health, safety, and wellbeing are part of everyday thinking. You’ll be supporting services across the council to stay compliant, confident, and proactive—making a real difference to how people work and feel.
Responsibilities
* You’ll provide expert advice and hands-on support across a wide range of health and safety areas—from inspections and audits to training and incident investigations.
* You’ll help shape policies, coach staff on using our compliance systems (like AssessNET), and work with teams to embed good practice.
* You’ll also get involved in specialist areas like asbestos advice, workplace sampling, and supporting our Business Regulation Team when needed.
Qualifications
* A qualified health and safety professional (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) with strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills.
* You’ll be confident working independently and collaboratively, able to tailor advice to different audiences, and comfortable presenting information clearly.
* You’ll also be flexible, proactive, and ready to work across a diverse range of services—sometimes at short notice or in challenging environments.
