Bottom up, we’re Topps Tiles – an ambitious, multi‑million‑pound retail business that has delivered 20% of the UK market share in 2023. We’re now targeting £365 million of sales under our new Mission 365 goal and are looking for an Assistant Accountant to help us get there.
Key Accountabilities
* Work with the Head of Financial Reporting and the finance team to administer key accounting processes and keep information timely and accurate.
* Assist with IFRS16 lease accounting, liaising with the property function to keep our MRI Horizon software up‑to‑date.
* Support rent and rates accounting, other utilities accounting and miscellaneous reporting as required.
* Allocate and recharge property costs to appropriate entities within the group.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns and complete all regulatory submissions for goods entering Northern Ireland.
* Coordinate with external auditors to ensure statutory accounts for the group and subsidiaries meet required timescales.
* Review the balance sheet and profit & loss areas on a monthly basis and keep the Head of Financial Reporting and the controller informed of the company’s financial position.
* Identify key risk areas, establish appropriate processes and agree on mitigation plans with the Head of Financial Reporting.
* Ensure core accounting controls are robust, consistently implemented and meet audit expectations.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
* Interest in technical accounting and a desire to develop expertise in this area.
* Competence in Excel, including formulas and pivot tables (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, IFERROR).
* Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Dynamics and MRI Horizon.
* Understanding of IFRS16 lease accounting.
* Experience liaising with external parties such as banks, auditors, etc.
* Good working knowledge of accounting systems and the monthly accounts process: general ledger, purchase ledger, sales ledger, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting.
