Job Title: Health Protection and Resilience Public Health Consultant

Pay rate: £573.46 per day PAYE
Role length: Anticipated 6 months
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Public Health Consultant to support the Director of Public Health to take all steps necessary to protect the health of the population including supporting action to protect residents from immediate and future threats to their health and seeking assurances that all relevant organisations in the area have appropriate plans in place to protect the health of the population and that all necessary action is being taken.
Areas of health protection will include immunisation, infection prevention and control advice to a range of settings, planning surveillance and response to incidents and outbreaks, and inclusion health. Environmental hazards will include action to protect residents from the impacts of poor air quality and climate change and poor homes.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure development and maintenance of systems and processes to enable the local authority to work with partners to respond to major incidents including health protection threats
* On behalf of the Director of Public Health, to lead on those aspects that the Secretary of State delegates to the authority. Ensure that partner organisations (UKHSA, ICB and NHS) have appropriate mechanisms, to enable surge capacity to be delivered as and when required
* Lead the delivery of the health protection programmes, including for example, responsibilities relating to COVID-19, Tuberculosis, HIV, offender health, adverse weather planning and pandemic disease planning
* Provide oversight of national immunisation programmes
* Provide the main public health lead into the Resilience arrangements, and collaborative working with the regulatory services such as Environmental Health, Public Protection
* Provide public health expertise in health and housing reflecting the health enabling settings approach
* Assess the impact on inequalities and take steps to mitigate/ reduce inequalities
* Manage the health protection team

* Clear understanding of health protection programmes and immunisation programmes
* Ability to work collaboratively across organisations and influence at all levels
