Our client, a leading player in the rail industry, is currently seeking a Systems Safety Principal Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is a permanent role for a dedicated professional passionate about ensuring top-notch safety and compliance within rail systems. Key Responsibilities: Working in a leadership role within our client's projects to ensure compliance with the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment. Ensuring compliance with the Railways Interoperability Regulations within client projects. Managing and leading the System Safety (CSM) Team. Facilitating the development of the System Safety Team alongside the System Safety Manager. Developing and delivering system safety training packages internally and externally as required. Regularly monitoring and inspecting projects for compliance, identifying lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement. Facilitating Hazard Workshops using techniques such as HAZID, HAZOP, Bow-Tie Models, Fault Trees, Event Trees, and Brainstorming. Promoting best practices in design risk management throughout the company. Providing advice on business development and continual improvement by collaborating with other disciplines to enhance service delivery and processes. Producing key CSM and Interoperability related documents to support project approvals. Assisting the System Safety Team and advising on System Safety issues and participating in Safe by Design initiatives. Job Requirements: Robust track record of successfully applying and managing the CSM hazard management process in complex multi-disciplinary project environments. Effective communication skills and the ability to assist in developing a growing Systems Safety Team. Ability to manage and plan your workload effectively. Fostering high levels of cooperation and coordination between project teams and individual members. Experience in leading others in System Safety activities including training, workshops, meetings, and risk assessments. Experience liaising with regulatory bodies such as the Office of Rail and Road and independent assessment bodies. Ability to work on both complex multi-disciplinary and simple projects, collaborating with internal and external designers where applicable. Membership of or working towards membership of a relevant professional institution is ideal. Understanding of engineering and operational design within the railway environment, with considerable experience in rail system operation and maintenance. Extensive knowledge of general construction activities, methods, and CDM Regulations 2015. Extensive knowledge of UK Rail Network engineering design standards, British and European Standards, and their application. Ability to assess the competence of others in System Safety Engineering.
