Job Summary
We are looking to recruit an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Band 6 Sexual Health Advisor to join our busy, dynamic team at our iCaSH clinic in Milton Keynes. We will also consider offering a Band 5 progressive post to the right candidate. Pay: £38,682 to £46,580 per annum pro rata (Band 6). Band 5: £31,049 – £37,796. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time – Monday to Friday 12‑8pm, one Saturday 9‑1pm, with time off in the week. The post includes training to achieve a Band 6 role.

Job Description
Main duties of the role include:
* Manage patients requiring Sexual Health Advisor contact within the service.
* Provide support, information, education, treatment and health‑promotion advice to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B & C.
* Manage and oversee the results of tests undertaken within the service and carry out robust partner notification to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts.
* Provide a safe environment for patients, carers and families to access care, discuss concerns and ask questions, offering information, advice, treatment, health‑promotion and education. Provide onward referral as required.
* Provide time‑limited 1:1 work for patients around risk reduction and behaviour change using evidence‑based tools such as motivational interviewing and behavioural change models to promote good sexual health and minimise risk.
* Assess factors that may negatively affect a patient’s sexual health and refer or signpost to appropriate specialist services (e.g. psychology, psychiatry, alcohol and drug services).
* Provide ongoing support, advice and signposting/onward referral for people with associated concerns such as sexual assault, termination of pregnancy, sexual identity, relationship and psychosexual issues.
* Ensure confidentiality in accordance with current legislation, NHS, BASHH, BHIVA, FSRH and Trust guidelines and policies.
* Facilitate the recall of patients with untreated infections or those requiring follow‑up and/or test‑of‑cure.
* Exchange relevant information about patients and contacts with other sexual health clinics as necessary.
* Implement management of under‑18 and vulnerable adults in line with Frasier Guidelines and Gillick Competencies.
* Liaise with multi‑disciplinary teams, including local safeguarding teams, where concerns about mental capacity arise.
* Practice as a prescriber if holding a non‑medical prescribing qualification.
* Perform phlebotomy and point‑of‑care HIV testing following training.
* Lead and participate in sexual health promotion work within the service.
* Work alongside the HIV specialist team, providing patient support.
* Adhere to Society of Sexual Health Advisors (SSHA) guidance.
* Develop or contribute to writing, reviewing and updating Trust and Service policies, guidance, SOPs and other documents.

Person Specification
* Essential
o Registered Nurse or Midwife (NMC).
o Experience working in sexual health (contraception, GUM, HIV or equivalent).
o Competency in the supply of treatments by Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or willingness to undertake training.
o Experience in health care, ideally sexual health or health coaching.
o Suitable for newly qualified registered nurse (adult level 1).
o Specialist clinical knowledge in sexual health and/or related specialties.
o Sensitivity and confidence when handling sensitive and complicated diagnoses, social and care issues.
o Competence in phlebotomy (or willingness to undertake training).
* Desirable
o Independent non‑medical prescribing qualification.
o Experience caring for people living in difficult and chaotic social situations.
o Confidence in working with multidisciplinary, multi‑agency groups.
