The successful candidate will provide efficient, effective, and comprehensive administrative support for the department. The role covers a 365-day period over a 24-hour rotational pattern and involves administrative tasks aligned to provide effective care for patients on the Emergency and Acute pathway.

Responsibilities
* Update patient management systems; answer calls and greet patients/relatives; prepare notes and support the nursing team with ward administration (record keeping, data entry, filing, scanning).
* Communicate effectively with staff and patients; ensure patients are directed to the appropriate waiting area or ward in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.
* Maintain up-to-date patient demographic details in medical records and on the Patient Administration System (name, address, telephone number, ethnic origin, GP).
* Use the Patient Administration System to booking and arrange follow-up outpatients as required.

Person Specification
Essential
* Qualifications: High level of literacy and numeracy; GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
* Experience: Demonstrable experience of administrative & clerical systems and processes; fully conversant with information and IT systems; experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
* Skills: Ability to deal with difficult/anxious people using tact and diplomacy; excellent organisational skills to manage own workload and support a smooth service
Desirable
* Previous ward clerk/reception experience
* Previous experience in an acute hospital environment
