Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will play a key supporting role within our customer-focused Commercial team. Working under the guidance of an experienced Quantity Surveyor mentor, you will gain valuable, hands-on experience across all stages of the development process, building a career on solid foundations. You will contribute from day one, developing commercial awareness, negotiation skills and a strong understanding of construction techniques, materials and costs.
We are looking for a confident, motivated individual who is keen to learn, flexible in their approach, and passionate about building excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in preparing and managing build costs, budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete reports for residential developments.
* Support procurement by preparing enquiry packs, analysing tenders, compiling comparisons, and placing sub-contract orders.
* Process sub-contractor payments, invoices, valuations, and variations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and budget control.
* Attend site visits to record progress, measure works, and support monthly valuations.
* Liaise with Planning, Technical, and Construction teams to ensure accurate and timely information flow.
* Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to support commercial success.
* Develop knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, codes of practice, and company procedures while supporting general Commercial team activities.
What you will bring
* Experience or exposure to construction, surveying, or project management (e.g. placement, apprenticeship, or similar).
* A construction-related qualification (or working towards one).
* Understanding of, or willingness to learn, procurement, cost estimation, construction techniques, and materials.
* Awareness of Health & Safety requirements within the industry.
* Strong numeracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
* Confident communicator with strong written, verbal, and IT skills (Microsoft Office; COINS advantageous).
* Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn.
* CSCS card (or willingness to obtain) and a full UK driving licence.
