ST ALOYSIUS’ COLLEGE: THE SCHOOL

St Aloysius’ College is unique. As Scotland’s only Jesuit school, we occupy a unique position at the very heart of the city of Glasgow. Our campus, located adjacent to the Glasgow School of Art and close to the Royal Conservatoire, places the College firmly within the cultural and intellectual life of the city. The College’s iconic green blazer is a familiar and enduring presence, synonymous with both the school and the city itself.

We are proud to be one of the most socially diverse independent schools in Glasgow, educating young people from ages 3 to 18 across Junior and Senior Schools. The College has a proud tradition of academic excellence, with results that consistently place us among the highest performing schools in Scotland. Demand for places remains strong, particularly at key entry points.

Our Campus reflects both our heritage and our ambition. It includes the historic, listed Hanson Building, the award winning Clavius Science Centre and an £8 million sports complex at the very heart of our site.

While deeply rooted in tradition, St Aloysius’ College is forward looking in its mission. Guided by the Jesuit ideal of forming ‘women and men for others,’ we are committed to developing young people of intellect, compassion and integrity for generations to come. As a member of HMC and part of a global Jesuit network educating over 2.5 million students, the College offers exceptional opportunities for professional collaboration, development and international engagement.

St Aloysius’ College is proudly Jesuit and Catholic, and equally proud of the diversity of its community. We warmly welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds who share our commitment to educational excellence and the formation of young people in service of others.

THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

The Mathematics Department provides a core programme for all pupils in S1-S4. In keeping with the Characteristics of Jesuit Education, the Department seeks to assist in the total formation of each individual by promoting sound intellectual formation in mathematics and numeracy.

Pupils in S1 and S2 follow a broad general education in Mathematics and Numeracy, before embarking on National 5 Mathematics in S3 and S4. Higher and Advanced Higher Mathematics is offered in S5 and S6, as well as Advanced Higher Mathematics of Mechanics.

The department enters UKMT competitions at all levels as well as Enterprising Maths and other local and national initiatives.

We have close links with our on-site Junior School, and frequently teach lessons there, and visit to provide support to colleagues and pupils.

TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS – fixed term, part time post from August (0.5 FTE until June )

The department is dynamic, innovative and fosters an atmosphere of achievement, enjoyment and success. The department prides itself in achieving outstanding results in SQA examinations. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at all certificated levels up to National 5.

Staff are encouraged to develop lessons that will inspire and motivate pupils to enable them to reach their full potential. We would look to the successful candidate to pursue a variety of pedagogical approaches in class and develop resources to support lessons and courses. St Aloysius’ College also encourages staff to take advantage of continuous life-long professional learning opportunities to update their skills and improve their knowledge.
