The Role

As Project Manager you will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team to bring water and wastewater infrastructure projects from design through to construction, commissioning and handover to the client. You will lead all areas of Civil, Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) Engineering scope of works and be involved in all day‑to‑day aspects of delivery including programme management, commercial management and HSQE development and awareness. Your role will be key in supporting the Contracts Manager and will offer opportunities to develop specialised knowledge and advance your career.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
* Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to on‑site.
* Instil a positive Health and Safety culture within the team.
* Work closely and collaborate with all key stakeholders including clients, client representatives and third‑party agencies.
* Ensure a positive experience for the client and their representatives.
* Lead and coordinate the multi‑disciplinary civil, MEICA and process team in the delivery of the project on‑time, on‑budget and to the highest quality standards.
* Facilitate the coordination role of the PSDP for live projects with internal and external designers.
* Conduct regular Health and Safety inspections and lead toolbox talks and white‑board meetings.
* Use best practice project management techniques such as Lean Construction and Last Planner.
* Monitor project performance including risk and opportunities; mitigate or reduce risk where possible.
* Report on monthly performance to the framework manager including programme, budget and HSQE metrics.
* Lead the team in procurement of supplies and sub‑contracts on time and within budget.
* Manage project cash‑flow and work with the Contracts / Commercial Manager to submit interim payment applications on‑time to the client.
* Provide training and mentoring of staff; set development plans for the team.
* Act as hiring manager for resource management and recruitment.
* Assist with tendering opportunities for new projects.
* Respond to client and stakeholder complaints promptly and obtain satisfaction surveys.
* Seek to improve project delivery by providing lessons learned and innovative solutions.
* Keep up to date with the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
* Other duties as required from time to time.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.
* Extensive knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013. Holding a certificate in Managing Safely for Construction Managers is preferable.
* Experience in managing Civil and MEICA engineering works such as concrete works, pipelaying, mechanical system installation and electrical installation packages.
* Minimum of a Level 8 Honours Degree in a relevant Engineering Qualification.
* Ability to work under pressure to deliver project objectives.
* Strong negotiation skills with customers, suppliers and sub‑contractors.
* Good working knowledge of programme management software such as Microsoft Project and ability to prepare baseline programmes.
* Initiative, problem‑solving and adaptability during project delivery.
* Excellent working knowledge of MS Office packages – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
* Strong communication skills and high motivation.
* Full driving licence.
