Domestic Supervisor

We are looking to recruit a self‑motivated individual to join the Domestic Department at Worthing Hospital as a Domestic Supervisor. The post holder will manage Domestic staff on a daily basis, ensuring National Cleaning Standards are upheld.
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (daytime).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for managing Domestic staff, including appraisals, health and wellbeing management, monitoring standards, rosters, and mandatory training.
Person Specification
Experience
* Level NVQ 3 in a management discipline or equivalent experience.
* Experience supervising a multi‑disciplined workforce, knowledge of various cleaning methods including Hydrogen Peroxide.
* IOSH certification.
* Experience in the role of a Domestic Assistant or equivalent front‑line service.
Communication and Relationship Skills
* Maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with Trust Policy.
* Provide effective communication to support and facilitate all types of meetings relevant to the operation of the department.
* Assist hospital staff, visitors and patients when faced with difficult situations caused by third parties, following Trust policies and procedures.
* Communicate sensitive issues when dealing with the deceased family using tact and respect.
* Guide and direct visitors and handle telephone calls in a helpful and friendly manner, taking written notes of any relevant information.
* Investigate and resolve complaints speedily and effectively, maintaining a positive image of the department.
* Take a leading role in any departmental Information Technology initiatives.
* Provide advice and support to the Domestic team.
Analytical and Judgemental Skills
* Maintain effective and efficient records of all Domestic services, observing trends and presenting them to the Senior Domestic Supervisor.
* Communicate daily with all users regarding any variation in services that may be required; use judgement to rearrange priorities when necessary and in consultation with the Assistant Domestic Manager, implementing contingency plans as appropriate.
* Understand and adhere to procedures for dealing with complaints and ensure they are dealt with promptly and sympathetically; be capable of writing an incident report if required.
Planning and Organisational Skills
* Attend daily briefing meetings with the Senior Domestic Supervisor, liaise with other supervisors, and ensure operational continuity.
* Respond to staff requests and deploy staff appropriately.
* Plan and schedule rosters and annual leave within the team to ensure the service is well covered at all times.
Skills
* Strong communication skills at all levels, particularly in difficult situations.
* Ability to assess safe transport of hospital equipment and use appropriate manual handling techniques.
* Understanding of health & safety and environmental regulations for patient transfer, visitors, and staff.
* Ability to prioritise work, understand rosters, plan ahead, and maintain storage areas.

Compensation
£25,760 to £27,476 per year, pro rata.

This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under current UK immigration rules; applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. If you are applying using a Graduate visa, you must have a minimum of 18 months remaining on your visa at the time of application.
