Trainee Theatre Support Worker – Maternity, York

We are looking for a compassionate and caring individual who prides themselves on patient care and teamwork to join our Theatre Team as a Theatre Support Worker in our Maternity Theatre Team.
This role is a Band 2 post, progressing to Band 3 after one year of experience in a Theatre Health Care Support Worker role, provided the completion of the HCSW Theatre Department Skills training programme.

Main duties of the job
* Supporting patients to make choices about their care and ensuring those choices are respected.
* Collecting patients from the ward and escorting them to theatre, acting as the third person in the anaesthetic room.
* Informing the registered practitioner of any concerns regarding the patient, so they can assess the patient in a timely manner.
* Disposing of bodily fluids, soiled linen, spillages, etc. in accordance with Trust policy and guidelines.
* Supporting patients undergoing procedures physically and psychologically during and after the procedure.
* Acting as a messenger and porter for supplies, specimens, records and any other items required for patient care.
* Assisting the registered practitioner with patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
* Providing basic life support skills procedures as per Trust policy.
* Assisting with restocking supplies and maintaining equipment, reporting any issues to the registered practitioner.
* Adhering to standards and procedures that ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
* Keeping the area clutter‑free.
Person Specification
Experience and Knowledge
* Understanding of patient‑centred care and the role of the Theatre Health Care Support Worker.
Qualifications and Skills
* Literacy and numeracy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2‑3, D‑F, or equivalent).
* Demonstrable effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Basic IT skills, able to use applications such as email on a computer or smart device (e.g., tablet).
* Willingness to undertake further training.
* Ability to prioritise tasks.
* Completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate.
* Experience in a health or social care setting.
* Ability to communicate health‑related information.
