This is a part time (20 hours per week)/fixed term opportunity for two years

The main purpose of this role is to provide senior level administrative support to the Chair of Court who leads the governing body as an external appointee elected by the students and staff of the University. The appointee will provide administrative assistance to the Chair and act as a facilitator and an interface between her work and the rest of the University as well as governors and external stakeholders. The role is located within, and will be fulfilled through contributing broadly to, the work of the Department of Government and Legal Services (G&LS).

Reporting to the Director of Governance & Legal Services, the successful individual will need to be diplomatic, a skilled and succinct communicator on paper and orally, ensuring that important and critical information is conveyed with clarity, concisely and in a timely manner. The postholder will have an open and engaging personality, be well-informed and capable of working independently but also collaboratively with the G&LS and others in gathering information to assist the Chair in drafting papers and preparing for meetings. Diary management will be a critical function of this position, coordinating the Chair's GCU diary with other commitments in order to ensure that she is available at the required times to carry out her work for the University. You will thrive in a busy and demanding environment that requires the ability to multi-task effectively and prioritise your workload appropriately.

You will have strong administrative and organisational skills, ideally gained within a Higher Education environment and through supporting senior management level staff. You will have basic project management skills, as well as the ability to deal with confidential and sensitive issues appropriately. Being able to distinguish between using initiative and seeking guidance is also a key attribute for this role.
