Perinatal Mental Health Specialist Midwife
Overview
The Perinatal Mental Health Specialist Midwife role focuses on supporting the implementation of effective care pathways for pregnant women and birthing people with mental health conditions, with a key emphasis on addressing inequalities in all aspects of care.
Responsibilities
* Support the implementation of effective care pathways for pregnant women and birthing people with mental health conditions, addressing inequalities in care.
* Support maternity colleagues in the assessment of risks and vulnerabilities of birthing people with perinatal mental health problems and make relevant enquiries to determine needs for action and support (e.g., liaison with other agencies, onwards referrals, signposting and crisis management).
* Act as an advocate for service users to ensure plans for women with mental health concerns are communicated to the wider team and followed.
* Provide specialist perinatal mental health midwifery care that is personalised and responsive to individual needs and preferences.
* Liaise with a wide range of statutory and non-statutory agencies to provide packages of care for women and their babies, including assessment, planning, care and evaluation.
* Contribute to the development of perinatal mental health guidelines and pathways.
* Work closely with the North Central London and local maternity voice partnerships (MVP) to better understand the needs of women.
* Contribute to teaching of midwives, maternity support workers and multidisciplinary teams.
* Offer personalised support and education to promote safe parenting and reduce inequity and social exclusion.
