Overview
Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a motivated Ophthalmology Consultant to join our multi-disciplined ophthalmic team in Medical Retina. Applicants will be expected to have broad general Ophthalmology experience with a proven track record of cataract surgery. You will be a highly valued member of the team bringing your expertise and skills to a busy Ophthalmology department. The appointee will be an addition to the team of 8 Consultants currently in post; following this recruitment drive the Consultant team is expected to be 10. The service is provided across three sites: Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough, and Bassetlaw Hospital.
The service has departments and theatres at three Trust sites, and while split-site work within the same day is generally avoided, most consultants work at Doncaster and one of the other two sites.
Main duties and responsibilities
Your individual job plan will be reviewed and agreed annually. The service has an on-call rota. Consultants are 2nd on call. On-call is Category A and currently runs at 1:8, with a 5% on-call availability supplement; it is expected to be 1:9 when the current recruitment phase is complete.
The SAS grade includes seven doctors (one Associate Specialist and six specialty doctors). In addition, there are two specialty trainees (ST4-7) from the South Yorkshire deanery. The SAS doctors and Trainees provide first on-call cover at 1:9 rota currently. The service is committed to a strong training culture with protected theatre sessions for Specialty Doctors and regular Consultant-led teaching on Friday afternoons with SPA time allocated. Secretarial support is provided at Bassetlaw Hospital, Montagu Hospital, and Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
