Overview

Join to apply for the Project Manager - Operations and Safety role at WSP.

We are seeking to appoint a Project Management professional to work within our Intelligent Infrastructure business, to strengthen and increase capacity within our project management community. Our Project Managers support our clients to achieve successful project delivery, leading projects integrated with the client team, and as outsourced consultancy teams. We work on a range of projects, from medium scale renewal contracts for highway authorities to complex transformational programmes to support digital, data and technology strategies. We deliver solutions to maximise road safety on all road types, delivering operational systems and services into control centres to reduce congestion and improve road user satisfaction, and innovative projects as transport moves into a world of electric vehicles, greater connectivity, and increased automation being trialled in testbeds across the UK and beyond.


Responsibilities

* Taking ownership for the successful delivery of projects/programmes, providing leadership and direction to the team, communicating with all parties, identifying and managing risks, planning and progress monitoring, and developing and implementing appropriate project controls.
* Building strong relationships with clients through active engagement to understand their needs, operating as a trusted advisor to help achieve their objectives.
* Working with and managing other WSP teams in a multidisciplinary project/programme environment.
* Managing supply chain suppliers, including sub-consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
* Optimising resource balance across the project/programme and ensuring all deliverables and milestones are achieved on time and to the right quality.
* Monitoring and reporting project/programme finances to the business and client in a clear and productive manner.
* Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify solutions, share best practice and drive the best outcomes for projects and programmes.
* Acting as a role model and mentor for other project management staff, contributing to development and knowledge sharing within the Portfolio, Programme, and Project Management community of practice.
* Championing health and safety practice and leading project management commissions to achieve safe, sustainable and efficient outcomes that meet objectives.


Qualifications and Experience

* Proven experience of project management at practitioner level across multiple projects simultaneously with complex reporting structures.
* Experience managing both project delivery and commercial performance, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget while optimising financial outcomes and value for the business.
* Experience leading or working as part of a high-performing team, with the ability to influence and motivate others with different levels of experience and skills.
* Experience working as a client, consultant or contractor in public and/or private sector environments delivering complex projects/programmes.
* Understanding and practical experience of delivering projects/programmes within a structured project control process.
* Holding a relevant project management qualification e.g. APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ).


Technical Skills

* Robust project management skills with a track record for successful delivery, ideally within a transport, public sector, or high-risk environment; capability in managing proposals and bids including bid planning, resource coordination, and high-quality proposal writing.
* Ability to lead and manage complex matrix environments with effective coordination across multiple subject matter experts and stakeholders.
* Excellent relationship management skills with proven ability to build rapport with colleagues, clients and key stakeholders.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence and engage others to deliver on objectives.
* Ability to challenge constructively and present ideas and views clearly.
* Ability to work collaboratively in real and virtual environments to make decisions effectively and timely.
* Ability to work with clients to understand challenges and deliver services in a better environment.
