We’re looking for an experienced Associate Ecologist to lead and help grow the Birmingham ecology team within a collaborative, multidisciplinary business.
This position offers a blend of operational leadership, project delivery, team management and business development, working closely with regional leadership teams across the North and wider UK business.
The Role – Ecology Team Lead
You’ll play a key role in leading the Birmingham Ecology team, supporting project delivery, team performance and operational growth. Working closely with senior ecology leadership and technical specialists, you’ll help drive both the regional ecology strategy and wider business objectives.
This role would suit someone who enjoys mentoring people, managing operations and maintaining strong client relationships, while remaining technically involved in projects.
Key responsibilities
* Leading the Birmingham Ecology team and supporting wider Northern Ecology operations
* Managing project delivery, resource planning and operational performance
* Supporting pipeline reviews, forecasting and sales activity
* Acting as Project Manager and Project Director on complex ecology projects
* Mentoring and developing consultants and junior project managers
* Supporting recruitment, team growth and subcontractor management
* Working collaboratively with technical leads and multidisciplinary teams
* Maintaining and developing strong client and stakeholder relationships
* Supporting business development and wider work-winning activities
About you
* Degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline
* Full member of CIEEM and ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership
* Strong understanding of UK planning policy and ecological legislation
* Proven experience managing ecology projects and supporting teams
* Commercially aware with strong organisational and communication skills
* Experience reviewing technical reports and delivering work to a high standard
* Comfortable working within a fast‑paced consultancy environment
* Full UK driving licence
