Senior Staff Nurse – Rheumatology (Fixed Term 10 Months)
We are pleased to offer an exciting fixed‑term/secondment opportunity for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our Rheumatology Team at Royal Berkshire Hospital. This 10‑month role will cover maternity leave and is ideal for someone passionate about patient safety, experience and outcomes, promoting independence and preventing hospital admissions.
Job Summary
Band 6, Rheumatology Senior Staff Nurse
Key Accountabilities
* Adhere to departmental, Trust and British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) protocols, including investigations, data collection, research and audits.
* Deliver Rheumatology‑specific education to staff, patients, and families/carers.
* Provide leadership support to the team during the absence of senior nurses, ensuring smooth service operation.
* Develop specialist strategies, policies and plans that enhance capacity and resilience across the Trust.
* Collaborate with Rheumatology Consultants, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and Homecare services for robust monitoring of patient conditions and SOP compliance.
* Work with clinicians, care group leaders and administrators to deliver the strategic vision of the Rheumatology service.
* Provide specialist clinical services across the acute Trust for Rheumatology patients.
* Participate in local and national clinical audits.
* Deliver clear, accurate, and courteous support to patients via the advice line, documenting all communication on EPR and DAWN systems.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Current Registered Nurse, degree level.
* Resuscitation – minimum Intermediate Life Support.
* Mentorship / Assessor / Facilitator / Coaching qualification.
* Significant post‑registration experience.
* Excellent role‑modeling and team‑working skills.
* Evidence of recent clinical practice in a specialist area; experience in history taking, assessment and diagnostics.
* UK professional registration.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
* Recent clinical experience relating to Rheumatology or a related client group.
* Understanding of blood monitoring and remote surveillance service.
* Experience in audits, research and use of the BSR guidelines.
* Knowledge of biologic and DAWN monitoring.

* Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per annum (Agreed for Band 6).
