The Role of a Mechanism Engineer in Spacecraft Design
A mechanism engineer is required to join our team, working on the design and development of spacecraft mechanisms. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality mechanism products that meet the required reliability standards.
Key Tasks:
* Deliver existing mechanism products with a high level of reliability to schedule.
* Design and analysis of new or evolution of existing mechanism products including working with other areas of the business.
* Hands-on engineering including development, flight build, testing and spacecraft module integration.
* Managing multiple tasks and work packages in parallel with changeable priorities.
* Interfacing with internal and external customers including presentations and technical reviews.
* Authoring technical documents (e.g., design reports, procedures, test reports).
Person Specification
Experience:
* Proven experience in an engineering industry in a mechanical engineer, mechanical design engineer, mechanism engineer or related role.
* Ideally you will have demonstrated mechanical design experience of stress-critical components, implementing precision tolerance analysis, drafting, materials and manufacturing methods (DFM).
* Ideally, you will have awareness and understanding of the use of electronics and software/firmware in an engineering environment and demonstrated ability to help electronics/software engineers test and debug modules effectively.
* Exposure to technical and project reviews (internal and customer facing) would also be an advantage.
Education & Skills:
* You will hold at a minimum an engineering degree (typically mechanical, mechatronic or aerospace for example). A space engineering qualification is not required for this role.
* You will be self-motivated, accountable, creative and have a very high attention to detail whilst being comfortable in a technically challenging environment.
* You will have some practical ability, either within or outside the work environment.
* Ability to work autonomously and communicate in a 'One Team' environment.
* Ability to work under pressure in an organised manner: positive and persistent attitude.
* Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
* Knowledge of components (e.g. bearings, actuators, transmissions, feedback devices) is an advantage.
* Use of CAD and FEA software knowledge preferable with design/idealisation intent.
* Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
Benefits and Perks:
* Competitive Salary.
* Flexible working policies.
* 32 days annual leave + BH.
* Annual Company Bonus Scheme.
* Up to 8% employer pension contribution.
* Life Assurance (6X salary).
* Private Health Care.
* Enhanced Maternity & Paternity leave.
* Multiple Discount, Memberships schemes.
Candidates should possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled mechanism engineer to make a significant contribution to the development of spacecraft mechanisms.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in the design and development of complex mechanisms.
