Main duties of the job
This role is for a Band 6 Senior Speech and Language Therapist in the Stroke service, covering hyper-acute, acute stroke, inpatient rehabilitation, and early-supported discharge services at clients’ homes.
· To autonomously assess, diagnose, and manage adult patients admitted to Maidstone Hospital with swallowing and/or communication disorders, following the NHS Trust SALT guidelines.
· To be part of a multidisciplinary team providing a 7-day, extended hours flexible service.
· To attend and contribute to MDT meetings, goal setting, and ward meetings.
· To advise and support relatives, carers, and medical staff.
· To transfer patient information to residential care and community SALT services to ensure seamless care and prevent readmissions.
· To update and organize inpatient caseload documents daily for effective handover and prioritization.
· To supervise junior SALT team members and students.
· To participate in Videofluoroscopy clinics and FEES assessments.
· To provide coverage across SALT services and sites as needed.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Degree or postgraduate diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
* Registered with HCPC
* Evidence of ongoing CPD/reflective practice
Experience/Knowledge
* Experience working with adults in acute settings
* Knowledge of SALT assessments for adults
* Understanding of evidence-based practices in dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, dyspraxia, cognitive-communication disorders, and dysphonia
* Knowledge of clinical governance principles
* Experience with stroke patients
* Multidisciplinary team working
* Knowledge of relevant policies and standards
* Experience with instrumental assessment
