The role may support multiple drill centres, exploration wells, or regional projects.

The specialist will lead geomechanics integration into wellbore strengthening and stability evaluations, undertake pressure detection for exploration, appraisal, or complex development wells, and analyze non-productive time (NPT) events related to subsurface issues.

This role requires collaboration with drilling, completions, well delivery, and reservoir management teams. The Senior Specialist will participate in global PPFG/Geomechanics meetings to share learnings and incorporate regional best practices.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provide pore pressure and fracture gradient predictions, updating models with new data from drilling activities.
2. Develop wellbore stability and fracture gradient predictions for well planning, analyzing data from offset wells, laboratory tests, and stress models.
3. Interpret well data and plan data collection to calibrate predictions, participating in mitigation planning as needed.
4. Recommend drilling fluid types, casing designs, setting depths, and mitigation techniques for geohazards and lost circulation prevention.
5. Support pore pressure and hole problem detection during drilling, updating models accordingly and identifying lost circulation zones.
6. Conduct post-well reviews and update pressure and stability models based on new data.
7. Engage with BP Geomechanics/PPFG Community of Practice.
8. Coordinate efforts across the Geomechanics and PPFG community.
