The role

Based at our Headington campus and reporting to the Acquisitions and Collections Manager, the postholder will carry out a range of duties, including ordering and processing books and ebooks, checking reading lists, making digital scans to support students with their learning, processing interlibrary loans and responding to enquiries from Library staff, academics and students.

About the team

You will be working in Acquisitions and Collections, which sits within the Content and Collections area of the Directorate of Learning Resources. It is a busy team covering a wide range of tasks to support learning, teaching and research at Oxford Brookes, with a focus on selecting and purchasing books, journals and other materials in print and digital formats. You will also work with other colleagues from Document Delivery and Licensing and Subscriptions, assisting with a variety of activities relating to journal acquisitions, interlibrary loans and scanning services.

What will I be doing?

As a Library Assistant in Content and Collections, you will

● Process orders for library resources in line with defined budgets
● Assist with reviewing and updating course/module reading lists
● Assist with the receipting and processing of books and journals
● Support the delivery of the Library’s scanning services
● Support the Interlibrary Loans service by processing incoming and outgoing materials
● Respond to enquiries relating to content and collections from Library staff and users.

What skills do I need?

● Educated to GCSE level or equivalent experience
● Experience of working in an office or administrative environment
● Experience working as part of a team
● Ability to communicate logically
● Ability to generate ideas to improve ways of working - using a clear brief to improve something that already exists.
● Ability to set own goals, prioritise tasks,
● Well-developed IT skills
● Able to undertake moderately physical work e.g. manual handling of library materials and shelving.

About the location

Based at our Headington campus, you’ll experience the vibrant campus atmosphere and benefit from our modern office environment. The campus is one mile from the centre of Oxford and is served by regular public transport.

This role is hybrid with the expectation that postholder will typically work 1 day a week at home and the rest on campus, with flexibility based on directorate needs.
