Overview
You will have a commitment to working within an interdisciplinary environment and a strong background in treating patients with stroke and neurological conditions. You will receive regular supervision from a highly experienced therapist to support you in developing and expanding your existing skills and knowledge.
As part of the Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team (CNRT) based in Central Lancashire, you will provide assessment, treatment planning and management of rehabilitation programmes for a wide variety of clinical presentations. You will oversee delegation to generic rehabilitation assistants and support them in delivering rehabilitation, managing your caseload and diary, and participating in regular in‑service training and development.
Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with complex neurological presentations, formulating appropriate hypotheses, diagnoses and management plans.
* Develop and deliver evidence‑based rehabilitation interventions and individualised programmes, collaborating across organisational and professional boundaries.
* Promote health, reduce inequalities and encourage social well‑being for all patients accessed through the service.
* Document and report patient outcomes, contributing to audit and research governance.
* Lead or contribute to training and development programmes for other professionals, both within and outside the NHS, and for service users.
* Contribute to clinical leadership and supervision, fostering a culture of learning and reflective practice within the team.
* Manage caseload and diary efficiently, ensuring timely delivery of care.
* Travel independently across the locality to support patients and collaborate with inpatient colleagues.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
* Current professional registration with HPC as a speech‑language therapist, with a responsibility for maintaining this registration.
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) in a related clinical expertise area.
* Post‑graduate qualification in a specialist field, with an understanding of clinical governance framework and implications for practice, including audit and research governance.
* In‑depth understanding of NHS, government policy, public health/NICE guidelines on organisational change and the ability to adapt these appropriately to local service needs.
* Knowledge and appreciation of lone‑working risks, policy and procedure.
* Change‑management skills.
* Excellent time‑management skills.
Experience
* Treatment experience of a broad range of conditions relating to neurological speech‑language therapy.
* Demonstrable evidence of improving and developing service and practice.
* Evidence of leading and implementing clinical change.
* Experience of supervising and/or mentoring staff or students.
* Multi‑disciplinary, multi‑agency collaborative working.
* Awareness, understanding and competency to operate equipment according to local operating procedures and medical device regulations.
