As Technical Director, you will have overall accountability for the technical strategy, governance, and delivery across the South West business unit. You will provide leadership to the technical team, oversee design and engineering functions, and play a critical role in land viability, planning, and pre-construction processes. Working closely with the regional leadership team and the Group Technical function, you’ll ensure we deliver commercially viable, compliant, and innovative schemes that align with the Allison Homes vision and values.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
* Lead the strategic direction and operational performance of the regional technical department.
* Work closely with the Regional Managing Director and senior peers to shape and execute business plans, site pipelines, and delivery programmes.
* Represent the South West region at group technical forums and contribute to national standards and policy development.
Team Management & Development
* Build, lead and mentor a high-performing technical team including Technical Managers, Engineers, and Coordinators.
* Oversee team structure, recruitment, performance management and career development.
* Foster a collaborative culture aligned with Allison’s values of Trust, Teamwork, Kindness, and Passion.
Technical & Design Oversight
* Take ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity and buildability of all schemes within the region.
* Ensure timely delivery of design information for all phases – from feasibility and land bids through to site delivery and customer handover.
* Oversee value engineering processes, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
Land & Planning Support
* Direct the technical input into land bids, due diligence, and viability assessments.
* Work alongside the Land and Planning teams to assess constraints, appraise risks, and identify engineering solutions.
* Champion technical innovation to maximise land opportunities.
Stakeholder & Consultant Management
* Establish strong relationships with local authorities, statutory bodies, utilities, and warranty providers.
* Appoint and manage external design teams, ensuring adherence to programme, quality, and cost expectations.
* Maintain group standards and drive consistency across developments.
Risk, Governance & Compliance
* Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, NHBC/other warranty standards, planning conditions, and H&S legislation.
* Lead technical audits and sign-off processes, mitigating risk and ensuring build quality.
* Promote a safe-by-design philosophy in all technical solutions.
Commercial & Programme Responsibility
* Support the Head of Commercial and Build Director in programme planning, cost control, and procurement.
* Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the technical function.
* Deliver technical elements on time and to budget, ensuring smooth handover to construction.

What you will bring
Essential:
* Substantial experience at senior technical/Technical Director level within residential housebuilding.
* Proven ability to manage large multi-site portfolios from inception to completion.
* Deep understanding of planning, engineering, and architectural processes.
* Track record of effective team leadership and development.
* Strong commercial awareness and budgetary control experience.
Desirable:
* Chartered professional status (e.g. RIBA, MICE, CIOB).
* Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
* Knowledge of modern methods of construction and sustainable development practices.
