Job Responsibilities
* On behalf of the Ward Manager, and as the nurse in charge, liaise with the multi-professional team to promote effective communication and ensure high quality care is delivered to the patient effectively and efficiently.
* Be responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in this setting. Initiating assessments and treatments in a nurse led environment.
* Provide leadership, support and supervision to junior colleagues and act as a role model in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and delivering a high standard of individualised care to patients and their carers while on the ward or throughout the hospital when appropriate.
* Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence.

Person Specification
Essential – Qualifications/Experience
* Current professional registration with NMC
* Professional nursing qualification at degree level
* Evidence of current and ongoing professional development
* Staff management and leadership including HR processes
* Postgraduate qualification in leadership or equivalent experience
Desirable
* Experienced in successfully implementing change management strategies
Essential – Knowledge and Abilities
* Evidence of active involvement in developing new ways of working
* Competence in cannulation and venepuncture
* Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
* Knowledge of and able to implement evidence based practice
* Ability to administer meds, including transfusion of bloods/products
* Ability to deal with the care of terminally ill and other challenging situations
