Literacy and Speech & Language Practitioner
The Speech, Language and Literacy Outreach Support Service is seeking a skilled and committed practitioner to improve outcomes for pupils with significant and persistent literacy and/or speech & language difficulties across Wrexham. The key focus of this role is providing high‑quality professional advice, training and CPD to schools to build capacity and strengthen inclusive practice.
Working closely with ALNCOs, school leaders and teaching staff, you will deliver evidence‑based guidance on literacy and speech & language development, early identification of need, and effective whole‑school and classroom approaches, including creating dyslexia‑friendly and communication‑friendly classrooms. The role involves using a range of assessments to identify pupil needs, inform recommendations and contribute to targeted support planning within a graduated model of support.
You will deliver and oversee evidence‑based literacy and speech & language interventions through a combination of individual and small‑group work with pupils, as well as modelling strategies to support the effective transfer of targets into everyday classroom practice. Monitoring progress, evaluating impact and contributing to the development of resources will be central to ensuring support is responsive, effective and sustainable.
This post will primarily support the Welsh cluster, working closely with Welsh‑medium schools and contributing to literacy and speech & language support delivered through the medium of Welsh, but you will also be required to work across all schools within the local authority, depending on service priorities and pupil need.
We are looking for a reflective and motivated practitioner with relevant qualifications and experience in education, literacy, speech & language, or a related field, who is passionate about inclusive, evidence‑based practice. In return, you will join a collaborative and supportive service that values professional learning, teamwork, and making a meaningful difference to the lives of learners across the local authority.
For further information about the post please contact llywela.wilson-tommis@wrexham.gov.uk.
