Reuters is seeking an experienced Technical Operations Engineer for our growing TV Support & Operations team, based in London. As a Technical Operations Engineer, you will primarily work in our fast‑paced, 24/7 London Master Control Room (MCR) operation, which is responsible for the technical assessment, co‑ordination and supervision of incoming news feeds and transmission of news coverage to Reuters video products. You'll also use your technical acumen to assist with other key areas such as technical planning, equipment testing, preparation and deployment, and direct operational support of news and video equipment in the field.
About The Role
* Work in the London MCR, as part of the wider global TV operations team.
* Ensure the successful delivery of Reuters editorial content. You'll configure, route, supervise and co‑ordinate video/audio signals from linear and file‑based sources.
* Supervise and assess signal qualities, ensuring that all areas of the operation run to a high technical standard, and take a key role in the preparation, testing and deployment of equipment for field operations.
* Perform proactive health checks to ensure key systems are functional and conduct first‑level fault diagnosis. You'll use your problem‑solving skills to quickly identify service‑affecting issues and work with support teams globally to ensure they are professionally addressed.
* Continually review and optimise operational protocols to ensure they meet business needs.
* Produce high‑quality operational documentation in support of MCR operations and to ensure continuity of service across the team.
* Work various shift patterns as required, including night shifts. Possibility of travel at short notice.
About You
* Previous experience in a broadcast TV environment.
* Demonstrable knowledge of video (including associated signal formats and standards), compression/conversion techniques for linear and file‑based video and file transmission methods.
* Practical knowledge of IT infrastructure and connectivity, TCP/IP networking and multi‑VLAN networks.
* Knowledge and experience of IP‑based video delivery, including associated technical standards and transport protocols.
* Quality assessment skills required to supervise TV operations to a high technical standard.
* Good levels of situational awareness and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
* Good written and verbal communication skills for the clear flow of detailed information.
* Willingness and pro‑activity to assist in all areas of the operation plus an ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* The ability to understand our customers' requirements and the consultative problem‑solving skills to ensure we're adopting the most appropriate solution to meet their needs.
