Our Energy Business Unit are delivering the backbone of tomorrow’s energy grid. We’re strengthening our engineering capability to deliver major overhead line (OHL) and transmission projects across the UK. We’re now seeking a Senior Engineering Manager (OHL) to lead engineering delivery across high-voltage transmission schemes from concept to completion.
The Role:
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee the day-to-day coordination of both internal and external engineering teams, ensuring all project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. You’ll play a key role in aligning engineering output with project requirements, driving quality and efficiency across all phases. While experience in cabling is advantageous, a strong background in civil infrastructure is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and support engineering activities across both pre-contract and delivery phases, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and customer-specific requirements.
* Identify temporary works and technical needs, allocating appropriate resources in collaboration with operations directors.
* Manage strategic relationships with consulting engineers and joint venture partners, ensuring effective design delivery and alignment with Morgan Sindall standards.
* Provide pre-contract support including input into tenders, customer presentations, and securing design resources for future bids.
* Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the Infrastructure business unit.
* Oversee engineering compliance, training, and competency records, and represent the company at relevant industry forums.
The Candidate:
* Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant field
* Chartered Engineer or similar and participation in affiliated bodies for example Institute of Civil Engineering
* Previous senior level involvement in the provision of design management services for civil engineering design and construction in the highways, rail, energy and water sectors
* Significant senior level involvement in large project tender teams including price and quality adjudicated bids
* An understanding of commercial aspects including typical terms and conditions and procurement models
* Experienced in the management, surveillance and audit of assurance regimes
* Experience of managing design process in tender or contract environment
* Experience with working in joint ventures and alliances or other collaborative working

About our Energy business unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair and refurbishment services.
