Offer description

Overview

The Environment Agency (EA) is committed to an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We seek to embrace diversity for the benefit of staff, communities, and the environment.

We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to join the central Strategic Design and Transition Programme. The role will explore what the Independent Water Commission’s recommendations mean for the EA’s future shape and design, and to develop a plan to protect and enhance the environment while supporting sustainable growth. This is an opportunity to help shape the EA's future.

Responsibilities

* Support work to provide high quality, balanced and evidence-based advice to support future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, particularly the recommendation to create one single water regulator.
* Support engagement with colleagues across Government, within the EA, and with other regulators to ensure others are brought along as thinking develops.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while maintaining pace in a fast-moving environment.
* Be flexible and willing to assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
* Be an active member of the Programme team, contributing to creating conditions for a high performing, agile team that thrives under demand and ambiguity.

Team

You will be an essential part of a small, motivated team working with the Strategic Design and Transition Programme Director and Deputy Directors. The team is still forming, and you can expect a friendly, engaging and rewarding environment with supported personal development.

Experience / Skills Required

* Experience of working with central government to develop policy, including working with economists and scientists
* Ability to think and act strategically
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex or ambiguous issues into simple, targeted advice, often on short notice
* Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels

Contact and Additional Information

You’ll have an EA Office base location; as a national role, the working location is flexible.
