Water Resource Engineer

Our Water Management Consultancy team specialises in the concept‑level development of water resource systems, providing engineering viability, environmental assessment and financial appraisal to support critical decision‑making.
About the Role
Based primarily in our Derby office, the Water Resource Engineer will work alongside multidisciplinary specialists to deliver high‑quality technical appraisals, develop engineering options and contribute to the design, planning and procurement of water resource projects. Candidates will progress towards chartership and advance their careers in a respected, internationally‑renowned company.
What You Can Bring
* Experience in the UK water industry with demonstrable technical contribution to water resource planning or similar projects.
* Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to carry out concept‑level engineering development and appraisal tasks such as initial asset sizing and cost estimation.
* Knowledge of raw and potable water supply transfer systems, water storage and treatment.
* Understanding of delivery, implementation and operational risks associated with water resource and water supply projects.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to contribute to technical discussions and produce clear technical writing and presentations.
* Proactive engagement with clients, collaborating with delivery teams to understand and meet client requirements.
* Ability to comply with Quality Assurance Management Systems.
* Relevant degree or vocational qualification in civil or environmental engineering.
* Progressing towards chartered status with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE or CIWEM) is advantageous.
Your Day‑to‑day Activities
* Be part of a dynamic project delivery team, working alongside specialists across disciplines.
* Deliver technical appraisals and provide informed recommendations for engineering decisions.
* Identify and propose improvements to the development and representation of technical options.
* Produce high‑quality deliverables, analysing, interpreting and presenting complex data.
* Maintain clear traceability of information and data, ensuring consistency across the workflow.
* Build and maintain relationships with key clients, enhancing both personal and AtkinsRéalis reputation.
