Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
The post will be suited to a Health Care Assistant with experience in administering vaccines and injections (B12), wound management, suture removal, performing ECGs, phlebotomy, health &lifestyle education, chronic disease monitoring skills, and stock ordering, looking to expand their skills and experience looking for a new and exciting role in Primary Care.

The practice is a training practice for GP Registrars and is committed to mentorship and personal development of staff.
Job responsibilities
Job summary:
* Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
* Maintain and clean equipment used by the nurses and GPs according to the practice Infection Control Policy
* New patient and NHS health checks
* ECG recording
* Removal of stitches
* Dressings
* Blood pressure monitoring
* Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
* Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
* Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
* Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
* Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
* Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations, including coil fitting
* Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
* Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
* Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
* Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
* Maintain the booking system for BP & ECG monitors and processing of results
* READ coding of results and letters
* Management of QOF Recall and Enhanced services reporting protocols
* To be aware of national, local and practice quality standards for chronic disease management
* To provide support in correctly identifying and targeting patients for assessment and treatment
* To ensure staff are aware of the importance of maintaining disease registers and assist in the validation process
* To produce regular reports on the progress against practice targets
* To assist in the production of information for clinical audit

Qualifications
* A good level of basic education
* Qualifications/Certificates or demonstrable experience in Healthcare Assistance or Care Certificate
* A demonstrable commitment to professional development
* Qualified in Phlebotomy
Experience
* Demonstrable experience of working in or towards a role of Health Care or Nursing Assistant with competence in basic duties required of the post
* Experience of dealing with the public/patients
* Experience of working in Primary Care or GP Practice
* Experience of Systm1 clinical system
* Experience of Microsoft Office software
