Offer description

Clinical Training Officer (CBRN) – Civil Contingencies Response Programme The National Risk and Resilience Department (NRRD) is seeking to recruit a Clinical Training Officer for Specialist Training (CBRN) on a permanent basis. This pivotal role will primarily be based at the NRRD SORT Base in Dundee, with a national remit that requires travel across Scotland. Following significant investment from the Scottish Government, the Scottish Ambulance Service Civil Contingencies Response Programme is delivering a complex, multi-million pound initiative to enhance pre-hospital response capabilities for major and operationally challenging incidents. As part of this programme, we are offering an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of training to frontline clinical staff and Special Operations Response Teams (SORT) across Scotland. The Person The successful candidate will bring a flexible, proactive approach, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multi-agency environments. We particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience in SORT/HART operations or relevant backgrounds in CBRN/HAZMAT settings. Candidates should hold, or be willing to work towards, a recognised teaching qualification (Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent). A proven track record in developing and delivering educational curricula within the service is highly desirable. Reporting to the Training & Development Manager (CBRN), the Clinical Training Officer will assist in managing all aspects of specialist CBRN training, ensuring alignment with performance targets and government requirements to support national emergency preparedness. This will be delivered within a delegated budget and in accordance with statutory and strategic objectives. Application and Selection Applicants must be HCPC registered Paramedics, with an evidenced portfolio of Continued Professional Development (CPD). A comprehensive understanding of Special Operations and Hazardous Area Response is essential. Experience in the paramedic role is required, and additional qualifications such as Powered Respirator Protective Suits (PRPS) and clinical decontamination are highly desirable. Experience training and exercise delivery, incident management, and operational leadership will be considered advantageous. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, successful candidates will be subject to security vetting (SC) in addition to standard background checks. Informal enquires in respect of these posts should be made in the first instance to Kevin Brown, Training & Development Manager (CBRN) – 07881356342 or kevin.brown2@nhs.scot Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes. To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service. As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here. Please note that The Scottish Ambulance Service is NOT licensed to issue certificates of sponsorship under current UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship to work with us. NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
