Locum Orthopaedic Consultant (Upper Limb)

The closing date is 08 June 2026

The post is for a Consultant Upper Limb Surgeon with specialist interest in upper limb and trauma. We are looking for a consultant who is fellowship trained in upper limb surgery for a fixed term period of 6 months to join our existing complement of consultants.


Main Duties of the Job

The normal duties of a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics would be undertaken. This includes ward rounds, clinics, theatres, administration, teaching and inpatient support to colleagues and in addition to taking part in the on-call rota.

Providing expert assessment and management of elective upper limb cases, including shoulder arthroscopy, arthroplasty, elbow procedures, wrist/hand pathology, and soft‑tissue reconstruction as appropriate. Delivering trauma care for upper limb injuries, participating in the on‑call rota as agreed. Running consultant‑led outpatient clinics for new and follow‑up upper limb patients. Undertaking regular operating lists, ensuring efficient use of theatre time and compliance with Trust performance metrics.

The post has secretarial support with on‑site office facilities provided.

Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* FRCS Tr & Orth or equivalent.


Entry Criteria

* Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register (Trauma & Orthopaedics) via CCT/CESR.
* Extensive experience in management of shoulder, elbow and upper limb pathology.
* Ability to perform a full range of elective upper‑limb surgical procedures safely and independently.
* Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist generic capabilities framework.
