We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife and dynamic leader to join our Labour Ward as a Band 7 Ward Manager. The successful candidate will act as the clinical lead in the day-to-day activity. They will co‑coordinate patient flow, ensuring the efficient running of the service, whilst utilising exceptional interpersonal skills to support junior staff and work collaboratively with all members of the wider multi‑disciplinary team.

The post holder needs to be clinically excellent and able to positively lead and support midwives to work as autonomous practitioners, placing women/birthing people and their families at the centre of personalised care planning, promoting optimum outcomes and positive experiences.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the organisation's objectives by working to improve clinical outcomes, increase productivity, efficiency and quality of patient care. It is essential that the post holder will be educated to degree level, experience of mentorship and has previous experience in leadership and management.

Main duties of the job
* Responsible for the day‑to‑day co‑ordination across the Labour Ward, overseeing the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for parents, families and carers.
* Ensure safe and effective clinical practice in ensuring own knowledge, skills and competencies are current and act as clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge to others.
* Support the elective work and ensure oversight for the forthcoming week.
* Manage midwifery and support staff within the clinical area to maintain smooth running of the service, including people management (health roster, sickness absence, annual leave).
* Ensure safety checks and quality assurances met through audit and compliance, including ensuring resources and stock levels are maintained.
* Complete Datix investigation and assist the matrons with implementing local learning.
* Contribute to the delivery of the organisation's objectives by working to improve clinical outcomes, increase productivity, efficiency and quality in care delivery.
Person Specification
Education
* Registered Midwife
* BSc in Midwifery
* Evidence of professional development
* NIPE/EON trained
* Master's degree or working towards
* FSRH letter of competency for contraceptive implant insertion
* Coaching or PMA course
Experience
* Demonstrable clinical experience in all areas of Midwifery
* Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience
* Experience with Datix incident reporting systems
* Experience with Conflict Resolution and Complaints management
* Excellent working knowledge of Safeguarding policy and processes
* Experience of managing a team
* Evidence of initiating and implementing change process
* Experience of conducting appraisals
Skills
* Up to date and evidence‑based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
* Ability to demonstrate the required expertise associated with a senior midwife role including advanced clinical skills
* Good level of skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Able to teach and assess in the clinical area
* Use of Quality improvement methodologies
