Job TitleLearning Support Assistant

Contract:Fixed Term Time Contract 2025-26

Working Hours:8.30 am to 5.00 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, inclusive of a daily unpaid lunch break. 22.5 hours per week (TERM TIME only)

Reports to:Centre Manager

Salary:£ 12,927.60 per annum (full-time equivalent £24,570.00)

What are we looking for?

TCHC is looking for a Learning Support Assistant who will be creative and engaging to ensure individual learners achieve their qualifications and develop their skills while learning. Working with individuals who may present challenges, your support will be patient while demonstrating empathy by engaging with individual learners to enable progress towards their aspirations in all subjects.

Qualifications & Experience

•Qualifications & Education – Holds or is willing to work towards a Level 2 Learner Support Certificate, with Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English.

•Experience & Knowledge – Experienced in supporting individuals in educational settings, particularly 16 -19 aged learners and those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, with a good understanding of inclusive learning.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

Implement a range of highly effective strategies to support the diverse additional learning needs within the centre, whilst promoting independence, and tailor these for each individual in line with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), support plan, initial assessment and individual targets

•Assist teaching staff in delivering outstanding teaching and learning, to ensure learners achieve their planned outcomes and reach their potential

•Interpret instructions effectively to support learners in following these and assist with communication challenges, to ensure equal access for all

•Maintain accurate, timely departmental records and contribute to the setting and monitoring of individual targets, including the review of EHCP outcomes as part of the annual review process

•Provide support with study skills, pastoral needs and community access 1:1 or in small groups to ensure learners successfully navigate any challenges and progress to their aspirational destination

•Support learners in engaging with work experience opportunities

•Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and college policies for SEND, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and safeguarding

•Contribute to the work of the centre team, attend curriculum events and centre meetings

•Access training and professional development activities to ensure continually remaining up to date and gaining new skills and knowledge, including SEND-specific options

Note: These responsibilities serve as an initial outline for the tasks that the post holder will initially be expected to perform. Changes may occur over time to accommodate evolving job requirements and adapt to shifting circumstances.

Furthermore, given the dynamic nature of our operational environment, it is crucial for individuals in these roles to demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to travel to different work locations. This outline represents an initial plan and will be subject to periodic review as part of our Continuous Professional Development process.

The individual in this role is responsible for upholding the confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, staff, and other stakeholders. Certain aspects of their work involve handling confidential information, which should not be disclosed to individuals outside the scope of their official duties. It is imperative that the post holder consistently always adheres to the provisions of the General Data Regulation Act.

Pre-employment checks

The company also conducts an internal online search on social media platforms in accordance with the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. Should any pertinent information arise from this search, it will be discussed with the applicant as part of the recruitment process.

Please note that upon a successful job offer, the company performs digitalised right-to-work checks and initiates DBS applications through an external service provider. An enhanced DBS check, including the barred list, is mandatory for this role.

•The full-time equivalent annual leave entitlement is 20 days per year in addition to 8 UK public holidays. This will be pro rata for part-time hours.

•We operate a Christmas and New Year shutdown period, in which you will receive an additional 3 days of leave at full pay to cover this closure period after 1 year of service. This will be pro rata for part-time hours.
