What you’ll be doing
1. Serve as Site Aspect Lead for BT’s EMS, overseeing Waste Management and Natural Environment sub-aspects.
2. Maintain ISO14001 accreditation and ensure ongoing compliance with environmental legislation (e.g., Simpler Recycling, Deposit Return Scheme).
3. Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams and working groups (e.g., Site Aspect Working Group, Waste CIP, EWSPR).
4. Manage internal audit actions, including the closure of non-conformances.
5. Support the delivery of BT’s Group HSE policy and ESG initiatives, including biodiversity and sustainability programmes.
6. Provide specialist advice and guidance on environmental risks, compliance, and best practice.
7. Monitor and report on key performance indicators, audit actions, and compliance status.
8. Develop and deliver communications, training, and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
9. Ensure all relevant policies, procedures, and processes are up to date and compliant with statutory and business requirements.
10. Support the development and implementation of environmental projects and initiatives (e.g., waste management, protected species guidance).
You'll have the following skills and experience
11. Proven experience in environmental management, ideally within a large, multi-site organisation. Experience in developing and delivering training, guidance, and communications.
12. Experience in developing and implementing environmental projects to deliver continual improvements
13. Give specialised advice - You offer advice and recommendations based on your expertise both proactively and on request.
14. Stakeholder engagement - Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects. Excellent communication, research, and negotiation skills. Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
15. Understanding of regulatory framework - You will have a good understanding and application of all relevant regulatory and assurance frameworks, including ISO 14001 and 5001. Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, and compliance frameworks.
16. Data analysis: Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and drive continual improvement.
17. Professional qualifications – You will idealy hold a degree in Environmental Science or related field; ISEP practitioner (formerly IEMA) or equivalent desirable
