Job Summary
An exciting opportunity to join the Clinical Pharmacy Team at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals. The successful candidate will start as a Band 4 Pharmacy Technician and progress to Band 5 after completing training programmes and an Accredited Checking course. The role is based across Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Main Duties
* Complete medication histories and achieve medication reconciliation targets in line with CQC recommendations.
* Counsel patients about their medication at pharmacy and ward level, communicating with a diverse patient population.
* Communicate with other professional and technical staff regarding specific patient and operational issues.
* Support clinical pharmacists by identifying patients needing a clinical medication review in any care setting.
* Mentor students and junior team members.
* Identify patients at risk of hospital admission or readmission and assist with referrals to community pharmacy for post-discharge follow up.
Qualifications
* Essential – NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent; GPhC registration; experience working in a Pharmacy Patient Services environment; excellent oral and written communication; pharmacy computer skills; knowledge of dispensing law and ethics; evidence of CPD.
* Desirable – Medicines Management qualification; experience as an assessor/educational supervisor; accredited checking technician qualification; BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Services and Therapeutics; familiarity with pharmacy stock control systems; knowledge of current COSHH and Health and Safety legislation; Microsoft Word, Excel and database skills.
Employment Details
Band 4 to Band 5, salary £27,485 to £37,796 per annum, permanent contract, full‑time, interview date Wednesday 26 November 2025.
