The People Development Function
The Cluster People Team for Scotland supports both JA Mar Hall and JA The Bruntsfield, caring for a workforce of approximately 250 colleagues across the two properties. We are a small, agile team with the privilege of wearing all hats - people operations, employee relations, talent attraction, reward & recognition, learning & development, engagement, succession planning, and more.
The main office base is within the hotel at Mar Hall, Bishopton (Just 20 minutes from Glasgow), with weekly travel required to JA The Bruntsfield Hotel in Edinburgh.
We are seeking an engaging and talented Cluster People Operations Manager to help shape the colleague experience across both Scottish properties. This role plays a vital part in delivering the People Strategy - supporting a culture of excellence, service, and growth.
The team is made up of Cluster People Director for Scotlad, People Operations Manager, and a People (HR) Co-ordinator.
The Role
You will report to the Cluster People Director for Scotland and be responsible for delivering aspects of the learning and development agenda, coaching teams, strengthening service culture, and ensuring our colleagues are confident, capable, and motivated to deliver exceptional guest experiences. As a key member of the Cluster People Team, youll partner closely with leaders at all levels across both properties to develop talent pipelines, support succession, elevate people processes, and embed luxury standards in how we care for our team.
Key Responsibilities
Operational People Support
Be the guardian of our colleague handbook. Taking ownership of updating people policies and processes.
Assist with employee relations processes through notetaking, coaching managers, or facilitating informal resolution.
Partner with the business to ensure protection of handling colleague information and take effective steps to resolve any conflict.
Train and prepare managers for any formal meetings.
Act as a custodian of employee care, with ability to advise and direct managers on both legal and best practice approaches.
Ensure grooming, uniform, and appearance standards are consistently met in line with forbes five-star standards.
Maintain accurate training, compliance, and competency documentation.
Learning & Development
Deliver a full suite of training programmes including onboarding, service excellence, departmental training, systems training, and supervisory development.
Deliver the L&D strategy designed by the Cluster People Director, ensuring alignment with luxury service standards.
Facilitate dynamic, engaging workshops that build confidence, skill, and capability across all teams.
Create annual training calendars and support the development of new learning content and pathways.
Track, measure, and report on training effectiveness and completion rates.
Service Culture & Guest Excellence
Act as an ambassador of the JA way, coaching teams on luxury hospitality behaviours.
Partner with managers to improve service standards through performance coaching and effective feedback.
Support leaders on the delivery of action plans arising from guest feedback, audits, and mystery shopper reports.
Talent Development & Succession Planning
Work with department heads to identify training needs and future leaders.
Support the design of personal development plans and cluster-level succession pipelines.
Provide feedback to the Cluster People Director on talent progress and departmental needs.
Recruitment & Onboarding Support
Support the end-to-end recruitment cycle
Partner with hiring managers to ensure recruitment decisions align with service culture and long-term talent goals.
Engagement, Culture & Communication
Support recognition, wellbeing, and engagement activities across the Scotland cluster.
Help organise colleague events, communication sessions, and special culture moments.
Actively contribute to building a warm, positive, inclusive workplace.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
Experience within hospitality sector. Whilst this is a role within the People Team, it is essential to understanding the fundamentals of our business.
Experience as a senior HR professional, with experience leading learning & development, HR, or talent development initiatives you dont have to be expert in all disciplines but ability to coach and advise on aspects of these at manager level within a similar business is desirable.
Confident knowledge of legal and best practice people processes in U.K.
Confident facilitation skills and a warm, engaging presentation style
Passion for coaching and building luxury service culture.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Strong administrative skills.
Confident in providing feedback and advice appropriate to all levels within the business,
Knowledge of payroll and HR administration systems prior knowledge of Fourth Hospitality is desirable.
Knowledge and understanding of learning management systems.
A proactive, people-first approach and a genuine love of developing others
Ability to travel weekly between Mar Hall and The Bruntsfield
CIPD qualified would be desirable, but not essential.
HR and or L&D/trainer qualification would be an advantage.
Knowledge of Forbes Travel Guide standards would be a distinct advantage, although not required to apply.
