Mechanical Project Engineer – Wastewater Treatment Projects

The Role: Deliver innovative mechanical engineering solutions for municipal water and wastewater projects, leading design, procurement, and project delivery from design to completion.
Location: Sunderland, England, United Kingdom
Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design and system integration for treatment projects, overseeing site surveys, feasibility studies, detailed design, and tender pricing.
* Collaborate cross‑functionally with civil, electrical, process, and H&S teams to ensure seamless integration.
* Manage selection and procurement of equipment (pumps, valves, tanks, pipework) complying with company policies and regulations.
* Coordinate and manage subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, and quality standards.
* Conduct site visits to monitor progress, troubleshoot issues, and enforce safety and compliance.
* Build and maintain client relationships, providing technical support and project updates.
* Implement health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures in line with Glanua and client standards.
* Prepare project plans, reports, and status updates, highlighting milestones, risks, and mitigation.
* Participate in project reviews, incorporating lessons learned and process improvements.
* Mentor junior engineers and support continuous personal and professional development.
Qualifications
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. Chartered Engineer status or working towards is preferred.
* Minimum 3 years of proven experience as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer in the water and wastewater industry.
* Strong commercial acumen and ability to manage project budgets, timelines, and resources.
* Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and technical guidance skills across multidisciplinary teams.
* In‑depth knowledge of health, safety and environmental standards in mechanical design and construction for water and wastewater.
* Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Project highly desirable.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
* Valid UK driving licence.
