Heavy Vehicle Technical Trainer
Based in Kilbirnie Street, GTG Training is looking for an Automotive Heavy Vehicle Technical Trainer to join and strengthen our team.

3. Hours – Full time: Monday – Friday 8am – 4.30pm. Overtime may occasionally be required.
4. About The Role
As an Automotive Heavy Vehicle Technical Trainer, you will be responsible for training apprentices or commercial delegates to the highest standards at GTG’s training centre as they work towards industry accredited qualifications.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working in heavy vehicle maintenance and be able to demonstrate knowledge regarding the latest technology, including electrical diagnosis. Previous training experience is preferred, but not required, as all training will be given to the right candidate. All applicants must hold and have proof of a recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3 or equivalent and be occupationally competent, which is to be demonstrated at interview.
Day‑to‑day duties
o Carry out training and education in a safe manner, subject to health and safety, COSHH and other mandatory regulations
o Use appropriate training and education methods
o Prepare and use training aids wherever appropriate
o Assist the Team Leader and Automotive Training Manager in maintaining discipline and ensuring all trainees comply with company policy
o Map progress, underpinning knowledge and complete awarding body documentation
o Assess trainees’ knowledge, skills and behaviours according to standards set by awarding bodies and the Sector Skills Council, while staying in line with the EIF as laid out by OFSTED
o Assist the Team Leader and Curriculum Manager to further develop training and assessment processes and resources
o Ensure that all trainees receive training using current methods and keep up to date with technological developments and vocational CPD
o Provide welfare support and guidance to apprentices and employers
Essential Skills
o Hold an industry-recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3 or equivalent
o English and Maths at Level 2 or equivalent
o Proven track record with electrical diagnosis and ability to use modern automotive technology
o Strong communication skills
o Ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
o Enthusiasm and commitment
o Hold full UK driving licence for subject specialism
Desirable Skills
o Teaching qualification (training and qualification will be offered if not)
o Recent English and Maths experience (training and qualification will be offered if not)
o Experience of working with apprentices or young people
o Assessing or TAQA qualification
o First aid
