Offer description

Milne Moser Solicitors is seeking an experienced and motivated solicitor to take the lead of our Family Law department.

This is a senior leadership position for a driven individual who is passionate about both legal excellence and team development. As Head of Department, you will play a central role in setting the strategic direction of the team, guiding day-to-day operations, and helping shape the future of the firm.

You will work closely with the partners to develop a clear business strategy for the department, with both short- and long-term objectives. Once agreed, you will oversee the delivery of that strategy, carrying out regular reviews to monitor progress and identify opportunities for improvement.

A key part of your role will be to lead and support the team. You will supervise team members to ensure the highest standard of client service is consistently delivered. This will include carrying out file audits in line with our Office Manual and overseeing the implementation of department-wide precedents and procedures.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that internal communication runs smoothly, providing administrative staff with clear expectations and the support they need. Regular departmental meetings will offer an opportunity to share updates, invite feedback, and keep the team aligned.

In addition, you will be expected to maintain and develop professional relationships, both those already established by the firm and any new ones that will support the department’s growth. You will also play an active role in raising the department’s profile locally and nationally.

This role includes managing your own caseload of family law matters, maintaining high standards of client care and working to agreed billing targets.

You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements, and for making sure that all team members are kept informed of relevant changes.

Key responsibilities include:

* Working with partners to design and implement a strategic plan for the department
* Supervising, supporting and mentoring team members
* Conducting regular file audits and ensuring quality standards are met
* Leading the development and rollout of departmental precedents and training
* Holding regular team meetings to cascade updates and gather feedback
* Maintaining and developing business relationships with external professionals
* Contributing to the department’s marketing and growth strategy
* Managing your own caseload in line with your annual targets
* Ensuring ongoing compliance with professional and legislative requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

* A strong background in family law, with significant post-qualification experience
* A proven track record of leadership, supervision and team development
* Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
* Commercial awareness and a strategic mindset
* A commitment to delivering high standards of client care
* Confidence in managing professional relationships and promoting the department
