We are seeking an experienced and dynamic senior nurse to join our Critical Care leadership team as ICU Matron within Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and compassionate leader to play a pivotal role in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care within our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). You will work closely with the Critical Care Senior Management Team, providing visible clinical leadership and contributing to the ongoing development of services, workforce and culture.
The role requires a strong focus on quality improvement, patient safety, and workforce leadership, ensuring delivery of excellent care in a complex and fast-paced environment.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
As ICU Matron, you will:
* Provide professional nursing leadership across critical care services
* Ensure delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care
* Lead on nurse-sensitive indicators and continuous quality improvement initiatives
* Maintain strong oversight of staffing, workforce planning and operational performance
* Support the development of a positive, inclusive and supportive culture within the ICU team
* Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and experience
* Provide visible leadership and senior clinical support across a 7-day service model
* Contribute to Trust-wide priorities relating to patient safety, workforce development and service improvement

About You
We are looking for a candidate who:
* Is a registered nurse with substantial post-registration experience in Critical Care
* Has experience at Senior Sister / Charge Nurse level or above within ICU
* Demonstrates strong clinical leadership and decision-making skills
* Has a track record of delivering quality improvement and service development
* Is passionate about staff wellbeing, engagement and retention
* Can foster an open, supportive and inclusive working environment
* Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels
