Job Title: Senior Buyer – M&E

Company Overview
Our client is a successful and growing Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) contractor, delivering complex building services projects across a range of sectors including commercial, residential, and infrastructure. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a hands-on Senior Buyer to lead the procurement function and manage a small team.
Role Overview
The Senior Buyer will be responsible for managing all procurement activities across M&E projects, developing supplier strategies, leading rebate negotiations, and driving value across the supply chain. This is an office-based role in Stevenage, reporting to the Managing Director and Operations Director, and requires prior experience managing a procurement team.
Key Responsibilities
* Full procurement ownership across Mechanical & Electrical materials and services
* Negotiate rebate agreements and set up project-specific and global discount schemes
* Produce monthly procurement reports for the Managing Director and Operations Director
* Lead the setup of project-related rebates and global discounts
* Monitor, manage, and support your team – identifying strengths, development areas, and coaching where needed
* Conduct Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) with direct reports
* Schedule and monitor material call-offs, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery
* Investigate value engineering options and propose cost-effective alternatives without compromising on quality
* Identify and implement procurement innovations to improve quality, speed, or cost
* Continuously streamline procurement processes to maximise efficiency
* Build strong, collaborative relationships with site-based teams and project managers
* Be the master user of the company’s procurement system (Eque2), ensuring optimal use and training where needed
Requirements
* Minimum 5 years of procurement experience within the M&E or construction sector
* Proven experience managing and mentoring a procurement team
* Strong supplier negotiation, rebate structuring, and cost control expertise
* Excellent understanding of M&E materials and subcontractor packages
* Confident using procurement software; experience with Eque2 is a strong advantage
* Highly organised with excellent communication and reporting skills
* Commercially astute with strong attention to detail
* Able to thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
