Qualified Advanced Critical Care Practitioner

Applications are invited for the position of a qualified Advanced Critical Care Practitioner at East Lancashire Teaching Hospital. ELHT is a busy teaching hospital with around 700 beds across all sites. Services are provided from two main sites, the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. Acute services are based at the Blackburn site and include the emergency department, the 28 bedded Critical Care Unit and the acute surgical and medical units. The ED is a trauma unit in the Lancashire Trauma network with Preston as the Trauma Centre.


Main duties of the job

We have a busy 28 bed critical care unit that cares for 1600 patients per year. We admit medical and surgical emergency patients and postoperative elective patients requiring a higher level of care. This provides an excellent opportunity to be part of our varied MDT, caring for critically ill patients.

You would be part of the Critical Care rota and you will be expected to work within our 24 hour, seven day service. Your clinical commitment will be to Critical Care and the remaining time can be focused on your personal progression, quality improvement, education and research opportunities.

Job responsibilities

Experience and competencies are detailed in the person specification. Applicants must also possess the following skills:

* Be a qualified ACCP - trained to MSc level
* It would be desirable to have FICM accreditation, but not essential.
* Possess energy, drive and resilience to further develop their skills and knowledge.
* Has an understanding of team dynamics and builds effective working relationships


Person Specification


Professional Body Registration

* Professional registration with NMC/HCPC Professional Body


Training & Qualifications

* First level registered Nurse/Allied Health Professional currently working at an Advanced Practitioner level
* Non Medical prescribing module
* MSc in Advanced Practice or equivalent
* Advanced Clinical Skills
* Recognised advanced specialist qualification in acute care
* NMC Approved mentor preparation course/or equivalent.
* ALS/Alert provider
* Teaching Qualification
* Experience in clinical supervision
* ALS Instructor
* FICM Accreditation
* Transfer Training


Experience

* 5 years post-registration experience (or equivalent)
* 3 years (or equivalent) at senior level
* Critical Care experience
* Evidence of effective leadership
* Evidence of managing teams
* Detailed knowledge of current best practice in relevant clinical area
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development
* Post-registration experience in a relevant clinical setting.
* Experience in various acute areas.
* Portfolio of evidence showing achievements in practice/speciality
* Implementation and sustainability of quality improvement projects
* FICM Affiliation

* Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Effective written and oral communication/listening skills.
* Ability to understand and analyse professional and ethical issues and apply them to service development.
* Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional/ aggressive patients/carers.
* Undertaken a management program
* Experience of developing courses and competencies


Audit and Research

* Willingness to undertake and get involved with audit processes
* Understanding of principles of quality improvement
* Demonstrates ability and knowledge on how to undertake audit and feedback to clinicians
* Evidence of quality improvement projects
