About the School: A high-achieving and ambitious West London secondary school seeks a dedicated and experienced Second in Department: Science. Our school boasts a proven track record of: Consistently high GCSE and A-Level results in Science A well-resourced and well-equipped Science department A commitment to innovative teaching methods that foster a love of scientific inquiry Extracurricular activities that promote student engagement with Science beyond the classroom (e.g., Science Olympiads, STEM clubs) About the Role: This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced Science leader to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Science education within our school. You will work alongside the Head of Science to provide strategic leadership and direction for the Science department, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality and engaging curriculum for all students. Key Responsibilities: Curriculum Leadership: Support the Head of Science in developing and implementing a stimulating and challenging Science curriculum across Key Stage 3 (Years 7-8) and Key Stage 4 (Years 9-11), ensuring alignment with the National Curriculum and the latest advancements in Science education. Oversee the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment in Science across the department. Identify and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies to improve student engagement and scientific understanding. Lead departmental meetings, fostering collaboration and the sharing of best practices amongst all Science teachers. Staff Development: Mentor and support Science teachers in their professional development, providing guidance and feedback to enhance their teaching effectiveness. Identify and implement training opportunities to ensure all Science teachers are equipped with the latest pedagogical skills and knowledge. Assessment and Data Analysis: Oversee the assessment of student progress in Science and analyze data to identify areas for improvement within the curriculum and teaching strategies. Work with teachers to set ambitious targets for student achievement and develop strategies to ensure all students reach their full potential. Budget Management: Assist the Head of Science in managing the departmental budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated to support high-quality Science education. Extracurricular Activities: Develop and lead extracurricular activities that promote student engagement with Science beyond the classroom. The Ideal Candidate: A qualified Science teacher with a minimum of 5 years’ successful teaching experience, including significant leadership experience within a Science department. A proven track record of raising standards in Science and a demonstrable passion for the subject. Excellent subject knowledge and a commitment to staying abreast of current trends and developments in Science education. Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire colleagues. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
