Position: Principal Transport Planner
Salary: £46,142 – £50,269 HC10
Location: Hereford (Plough Lane Offices, with flexible remote work)

Introduction
Are you passionate about shaping the future of transport in Herefordshire? This role offers a chance to lead innovation and make a real difference in a large, predominantly rural, ambitious local authority. You will play a key role in policy development, staff training, and service improvement initiatives.
The Role
You will take on strategic challenges including the Local Transport Plan, transport strategies, County-wide engagement, policy horizon scanning and infrastructure strategy. Your goal is to deliver better experiences for passengers, residents and businesses, and to ensure transport is a focus for all relevant plans such as the Local Plan, Climate Change mitigation plan, Public Health, and Care leavers plan.
Build alliances and relationships across the council and with external agencies, and lead intelligent investment decisions for Department for Transport funding streams.
What will you be doing?
* Develop and deliver strategic transportation strategies and policies
* Lead local and regional rail and bus strategy and policy
* Secure transport funding
* Commission and manage transport projects
* Engage with communities and stakeholders to ensure inclusive and effective transport solutions
* Tackle key challenges, from rural connectivity to modernising urban infrastructure
About You
* Degree level or equivalent qualification, preferably in transport or planning
* Strong understanding of current transport policy, legislation and sustainable transport initiatives
* Experience developing policy and strategy across all modes of transport, and knowledge of statutory requirements and national policy context for local transport
